Josh Warrington called out by Irish super-featherweight

Josh Warrington called out by Irish super-featherweight

IRISH super-featherweight Feargal McCrory has called on Josh Warrington to hurry up and make up his mind on a potential fight between the two.

McCrory, 17-1 (9 KOs), is looking to re-establish himself on the world scene after an unsuccessful challenge for Lamont Roach’s WBA super-featherweight title 16 months ago. The New York-based 33-year-old bounced back earlier this year with an eighth-round win against one-time Leo Santa Cruz opponent Keenan Carbajal.

In a recent post on social media McCrory explained that he had said yes to fighting Warrington but is growing tired of the hold-up.

“What is going on? Josh Warrington, where you at?” McCrory said.

“I agreed to fight you over five weeks ago. I’m in America preparing for that fight that is supposed to happen in eight weeks.

“All I’m getting told is that the fight seems unlikely. Why does it seem unlikely? You’re either fighting or you’re not.

“My career is on hold, my life is on hold… All the preparation for this fight and we don’t know what’s happening.”

In September 2024 Warrington had appeared to have called time on his career after defeat to Anthony Cacace. The Leeds fighter laid down his gloves in the ring afterwards which signalled the end of the road for the two-time IBF featherweight champion. However, Warrington would later describe it as a “rash decision” and returned to the ring six months ago with a points win over Asad Asif Khan.

Since then Warrington has been linked to a rematch against Leigh Wood and a win-or-bust clash against Michael Conlan. Warrington used social media himself early last month to call out Wood over why the rematch wasn’t happening. A post which didn’t go down well with McCrory.

“With regards to your silly video calling out Leigh Wood, in your defence, if I were you, I would much, much rather fight Leigh Wood than me.

“But let’s get it sorted out, it’s either on or it’s not. Let’s go Matchroom, we can’t keep waiting.”
