THE weigh in for Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight world title defence against Kid Galahad finished with ugly scenes as the fighters had to be pulled apart.

Loudly jeered by Warrington’s supporters, Galahad had to strip to weigh in at 8st 13lbs 12oz. Warrington was 8st 13lbs 8oz. He pressed his forehead into Galahad at the face off and the two agitated fighters had to be held back, while the crowd heckled Galahad harshly.

Previously Warrington said, “I have known Barry [Galahad] from the amateur days [when Warrington beat him twice]. I can even remember speaking to him at the Boxing Writers’ Club dinner in 2014 when we both nominated for young fighter of the year and he was right as rain.”

“Over the last year this different person has come out, by disrespecting myself and other fighters in the division like [Carl] Frampton,” he added. “If he is trying to get under my skin it isn’t working and almost laughable, but it has given me more motivation to do a number.”

Galahad is a controversial character himself, after serving out a suspension for an anti-doping violation. “Boxing isn’t about how fast you get there. It is about staying there for as long as you can and everyone moves at a different pace,” the Sheffield boxer said. “I have had certain things happen to me, but I have always stayed focused and I am here now so with this opportunity I am not letting it slip away.

“We’re here in 2019 and closing in on a world title. We’re gonna win it and hold it for as long as we can.”
