JOSH Taylor looks to make a splash at welterweight by taking on former British champion Ekow Essuman in Glasgow, Scotland, this May.
The pair will headline Queensberry Promotions’ third scheduled show on DAZN, with Frank Warren announcing his ‘Land of the Brave’ card on social media earlier today.
Former undisputed super-lightweight king Taylor, 19-2 (13 KOs), has not fought in Glasgow since his highly controversial split decision victory over Jack Catterall back in 2022.
The following year, he suffered his first professional blemish to Teofimo Lopez, who ultimately produced a dazzling performance to outpoint the highly accomplished Scotsman.
‘The Tartan Tornado’ then fell short in his fiercely anticipated rematch against Catterall last May, with the judges’ scorecards offering a more accurate reflection than what was produced immediately after their first encounter.
Essuman, 21-1 (8 KOs), meanwhile, has amassed two comprehensive victories since losing his British and Commonwealth straps to Harry Scarff in 2023.
In doing so, ‘The Engine’ reminded fans that, even at the age of 35, his relentless punch output remains a problem for any fighter at 147lbs.
Featuring on the undercard of Queensberry’s show in May is an intriguing featherweight clash between unbeaten southpaw Nathaniel Collins and former European bantamweight titlist Lee McGregor.
McGregor comes off a strong performance to outpoint Isaac Lowe, though Collins – a former British champion who carries dynamite in both fists – represents an equally formidable challenge.
Aloys Junior, too, will return to the ring against Scotland’s David Jamieson, looking to extend his ruthless surge in the cruiserweight division with another emphatic finish.
