JOHN RYDER is still keen on a fight against Gennadiy Golovkin and is happy to be in the away corner once again.

Ryder’s name is now on the record of Canelo Alvarez following his plucky showing against the Mexican in Guadalajara last month. While the Brit may have lost on the night, he also went the distance with a living legend of the sport who had been expected to get rid of Ryder early on.

The bravery and courage of Ryder along with his ability to give Canelo a few problems now has his name on lists of other promoters across the world.

His manager Charlie Sims is said to be in discussions with Jaime Munguia’s team about another Mexican challenge for Ryder but the lure of Golovkin still appeals to the British super-middleweight. Ryder says he is more than willing to take on the great ‘GGG’ in his homeland of Kazakhstan.

“I’d love to, I’ve proved I’ll go anywhere,” Ryder told ProBox TV.

“I’ve gone in there and fought Canelo, who I’m a massive fan of, and Golovkin’s no different. I’ve been a massive fan of him since when I very first turned pro, he was coming up quietly on the smaller shows in Germany and made his break boxing in the States.

“He’s been a great champion, [been in] great fights obviously. He’s had his three battles with Canelo himself. I thought he [GGG] won the first one. The other two was what it was, but he’s been a great fighter, done great things, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet him, and he’s a great person.”

Rumours of Golovkin’s retirement following the second loss to Canelo 10 months ago have never been confirmed. At the age of 41 and having had a successful career there is nothing left for the modern great to prove. Ryder and his promoter Eddie Hearn will hope they can tempt the fearsome puncher into having his 46th fight.
