John Fury has offered his take on the proposed Oleksandr Usyk vs Deontay Wilder fight after watching his son Tyson have multiple fights against the duo.
An out-of-the-blue fight between Usyk and Wilder has been touted in recent weeks after the Ukrainian revealed he wanted to defend his WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles against ‘The Bronze Bomber.’
It would give Wilder the chance to become world heavyweight champion once again, having not held gold since losing his WBC crown to Fury back in February 2020.
That was part of an epic trilogy, with the first bout ending in a controversial draw, while their third and final meeting saw Fury claim another knockout win.
‘The Gypsy King’ also met Usyk on two occasions, losing both on points in 2024, with Tyson’s father John in the corner for the first meeting.
Having watched his son have a total of five meetings with Usyk and Wilder, John has now shared his thoughts on the potential upcoming world heavyweight title fight, telling Pro Boxing Fans that he has serious concerns for ‘The Bronze Bomber.’
“He’s not the same man is he. He’s not got a leg under him. He’s shot to pieces. What does a man like Usyk want to do that for. It’s a liberty.
“You’re the number one heavyweight in the world, there are plenty of other people deserving a chance to fight than Deontay Wilder. Leave Wilder out of it.
“Somebody in a minute is going to cause Deontay Wilder some serious injury. Somebody could kill Wilder, because it’s terrible.”
John Fury isn’t the only man to offer their prediction for an Usyk vs Wilder fight, with former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis also believeing the Ukrainian champion wins ‘hands down.’
