Daniel Dubois became a two-time heavyweight world champion last month, and a future fight against rising star Moses Itauma became all the more intriguing. Now, John Fury, father of two-time titlist Tyson, has shared how he thinks the fight would play out.

Dubois twice picked himself up off the canvas to stop Fabio Wardley last month, capturing the WBO heavyweight world title in the process. Wardley has activated a contractual rematch clause, forcing an immediate shot at winning his belt back that is expected to take place this year.

The winner there could then be ordered to face Itauma, who currently sits as the WBO’s number one contender and mandatory challenger after just 14 pro bouts.

Speaking to Seconds Out, John Fury, whose son has sparred both men, said that a challenge against ‘dangerous man’ Dubois would, at this stage, be ‘too soon.’

“I think that it may be too soon for Itauma, too soon. [He is] a dangerous man, Daniel Dubois, and I give him credit for what he has done.”

Whilst almost guaranteed for a shot at the WBO title in 2027, Itauma also has less arduous options for a title charge, which could take place even sooner.

The Kent-based phenomenon is currently also rated as the number one contender with the WBA, and a clash against the victor of next month’s fight between regular champion Murat Gassiev and Tony Yoka could well be for full world honours if Oleksandr Usyk is stripped of, or vacates, his full title.

As for Dubois, and though he has welcomed a future fight with Itauma, all of his focus must remain on Wardley, who has shown his ability to win rematches in the past.
