OLYMPIC super-heavyweight silver medallist Joe Joyce needed less than a round to win his third professional contest, as he destroyed Donnie Palmer at York Hall in London on Saturday (March 17).

Palmer might have been a towering six foot 10 inches tall, and weighed over 300lbs, but he covered up as soon as he tasted a right cross from Joyce. Joe laid into him before stepping back, skipping away and driving his jab into the American’s body.

Manoeuvring off with his hands low, Joyce threw a one-two, his right hand slashing down. It smacked across Palmer’s chin and dropped him heavily to the canvas. He tried to rise only to stumble off towards the ropes where the referee stopped him inside the first round. It was a quick night’s work for Joe Joyce.

The athletic heavyweight celebrated by flipping through the air. Joyce is expected to box next on the undercard of David Haye, his promoter, when he fights Tony Bellew at the O2 in London on May 5. His target is Dereck Chisora but so far that is way off being made.
