WELSH European gold medallist Joe Cordina won his first bout at the World championships. On Wednesday (October 7), the second day of action at the tournament, he clearly outpointed Austrian lightweight Joshua Keirl.

Cordina’s GB team-mate, welterweight Josh Kelly [pictured] also eliminated his Austrian counterpart, beating Nathan Webber for all three judges.

British light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi picked up his first World championship win, unanimously outscoring Hyeongkyu Kim.

Irish lightweight Sean McComb, a boxer to watch in this competition, defeated Mexico’s Lindolfo Delgao Garza, 29-28 for all three judges. McComb’s countryman Adam Nolan however suffered a split decision defeat to Lithuania’s Eimantas Stanionis at 69kgs.

America’s 81kgs, Steve Nelson succumbed to Morocco’s Hassan Saada, losing a unanimous decision.
