Jazza Dickens makes the first defence of his WBA super-featherweight world title tonight against Anthony Cacace at the 3Arena in Dublin, topping a Queensberry Promotions card broadcast live on DAZN.

Liverpool’s Dickens is enjoying the best run of his career, having upset Zelfa Barrett and stopped Olympic gold medallist Albert Batyrgaziev to become interim champion before being elevated to full WBA titleholder. His first test as top dog is a tough one – Belfast’s Cacace, a former IBF champion, steps through the ropes off the back of impressive wins over Joe Cordina, Josh Warrington and Leigh Wood.

The main card also features Pierce O’Leary against former world title challenger Maxi Hughes for the vacant IBO super-lightweight title, while Jono Carroll meets unbeaten Colm Murphy for the vacant IBO super-featherweight belt. Rising British prospect Ryan Garner is also in action against Cristian Bielma, and highly-touted heavyweight Adam Olaniyan takes on Jan Bezouska in his pro debut.

Undercard results

Jono Carroll vs Colm Murphy – Vacant IBO super-featherweight title

Result: Carroll SD. Whether the eight-year age gap would favour the seasoned Carroll or the fresher Murphy was an intriguing question before the bout. Ultimately, Carroll overcame inactivity to win the decision after a close twelve rounds, his work in the second half of the fight earning him the nod. Murphy fought the wrong fight at times, but showed he has enough to come again. Scorecards read 116-112 Murphy, 116-112 Carroll and 117-111 Carroll.

Ryan Garner vs Cristian Bielma – Super-featherweight

Result: Garner TKO 3. Ryan Garner moves to 19-0 with a third round stoppage win over Bielma. A straightforward win allowing the Southampton man to stay sharp as he moves onto bigger things.

Adam Olaniyan vs Jan Bezouska – Heavyweight

Result: Olaniyan TKO 1. A box ticked for Olaniyan. He finished it in the first with two knockdowns against Bezouska, who bowled in like it was a pub brawl and was blown away. The Irishman, a highly-regarded amateur, will benefit from a night under the lights – nobody expected anything more or less from a pro debut.

JUST LIKE THAT! 😱🤩

Pierce O’Leary vs Maxi Hughes – Vacant IBO super-lightweight title

Result: O’Leary RTD 5. Pierce O’Leary too sharp, too focused and too clinical for Maxi Hughes, who took the fight on short notice and a division up from his natural weight class. It became one-way traffic, and trainer Sean O’Hagan, his fighter with a right eye closing up and in danger of unnecessary punishment, called it off. Big things coming for O’Leary, who had incredible support in the arena.

Result: Cacace UD. Anthony Cacace becomes a two-time world champion at 37 after 12 rounds of measured action. The styles didn’t gel and the new champion himself called it ‘a poor night at the office,’ but he did what he needed to do and snatched the belt from a heartbroken Dickens. Cacace wants to unify the division, naming Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete as top target. Scorecards read 115-113, 116-112 and 116-113
