LOUDMOUTHED heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller has shifted his attention to Deontay Wilder after revealing that Anthony Joshua has turned him down on multiple occasions.
Miller, 26-1-2 (22 KOs), was famously scheduled to take on Joshua, 28-4 (25 KOs), in 2019 until a failed drugs test caused him to withdraw from the contest and allowed Andy Ruiz Jr. to step in and pull off one of boxing’s greatest upsets.
‘Big Baby’ has since returned to the sport, receiving credit for his last two performances despite winning neither, losing via final-round stoppage to now reigning IBF champion Daniel Dubois and controversially drawing with Ruiz.
Last month, Miller was scheduled to fight Fabio Wardley but pulled out of the bout due to injury. Speaking with talkSPORT, the New Yorker stood by his decision and encouraged more fighters to say ‘no’ if they’re not feeling up to scratch.
“I’ll give you a quick educational moment, boxing is a very ugly and dangerous game, and fighters have to learn when to say no and protect themselves – that is what happened with the Wardley fight.
“I had a slight injury and as well, the British Boxing Board [of Control] don’t like my black a**. So, I did the right thing for me and my career, I took a step back and got 100% right.”
Miller then explained that he expects to return to the ring in the near future and revealed that Joshua has turned him down on four occasions within the last month alone, causing his attention to instead shift towards Deontay Wilder, 44-4-1 (43 KOs).
“August 16 is the Riyadh card, so there is a possibility that Turki [Al-Alshikh] can find somebody to put me [against] on that card at the last minute. If not, we are looking at the Canelo-Crawford undercard.
“AJ turned down the fight four times in the last month, so he is just looking for a real tune-up. I’m sorry to you guys in Britain, AJ is a real bag of fart dust.
“Deontay Wilder had a decent win a week or so ago and he is worse than a bag of fart dust, he is like rotten fish and chips with a bag of s**t, he is horrible.
“Either way, I respect my fighters because I am a fighter too, but if you’re active it’s free game, you are a target.”
However, despite chasing a fight with either Joshua or Wilder, Miller went on to admit that he believes the pair will instead collide with one another, in a battle of the ‘businessmen’.
“I think AJ might be going to make an offer to Deontay. Deontay is easy pickings and it’s two big guys, two former world champions.
“All those guys are businessmen, they’re not thinking about belts anymore, they’re thinking about business, that is the sad part.”
Joshua is anticipated to make his ring return later this year, whilst Wilder is seeking regular activity after Friday’s stoppage win against Tyrrell Herndon.
