FORMER European middleweight champion Jamie Moore was recovering in hospital as we went to press after being shot twice in the legs in Marbella.

The 35-year-old was reportedly attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Spanish town where he is training middleweight contender, and former opponent, Matthew Macklin.

The Birmingham fighter, who owns the Spanish gym, said on Twitter: “Just to let everyone know Jamie Moore is still in hospital but he’s OK. He was shot in his legs but the doctors have said there shouldn’t be any serious or permanent damage done.”

It has been reported that Moore is under armed guard at hospital, where he underwent operations on the back of his left leg and his hip and that the retired boxer was talking. Moore’s wife Colleen was with him at the hospital.

Lightweight Tommy Coyle, also trained by Moore, also took to Twitter. “You don’t realise how much you care and love someone until you almost lose them,” he said. “J is a strong individual he be ok.”

Everyone at Boxing News would like to wish Moore a speedy recovery.
