AHEAD of their 12-round bantamweight clash at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo tomorrow (Friday May 25), Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell and Yokohama’s Naoya Inoue both made weight at the official weigh-in.

McDonnell, who will be defending his WBA secondary belt, weighed 117 1/2lbs, while Inoue came in bang on the divisional limit at 118lbs.

The contest will mark Inoue’s first fight as a bantam, having previously won world titles at both light-flyweight and super-fly. The Japanese star, who is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet, looked comfortable and strong at the weight as he stepped onto the scales.

Despite weighing in lighter than Inoue, former IBF bantamweight boss McDonnell boasts significant height and reach advantages over his celebrated foe, which he will hope to put to good use in the ring.
