Last night, the rematch of the ‘Fight of the Century’ was announced as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao gear up to face one another for a second time. Fan-favourite James Toney has explained why he gives one man the edge.
Mayweather claimed a famous unanimous-decision victory over the Filipino phenomenon back in 2015, out-thinking Pacquiao for almost the entirety of the contest, which most fans felt came too late in the careers of both men.
Yet, 11 years later, the heroes of yesteryear are set to run it back, as Mayweather makes his professional comeback in a rematch with the familiar foe this September, topping a Netflix bill at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
For ‘Pac Man’, who returned to action back in July, this opportunity will present him with the chance to avenge his defeat to the American and leave a permanent stain on the currently flawless record of his nemesis.
In an interview with ESNews, James ‘Lights Out’ Toney looked ahead to the battle and revealed why he believes Pacquiao will indeed be able to hand Mayweather a first career defeat.
“In the rematch, I am going to say, from the last fight, I’m going to say Manny Pacquiao.
“[Because of] the movement, he still has the movement and I haven’t seen Floyd [fight recently]. I haven’t seen Floyd in like 10 years, so I don’t know what he has got [left].”
Many may feel similar given Pacquiao’s professional fight with Mario Barrios last year. Despite the fight ending in a draw, he benefitted from a full training camp. Mayweather, however, is known to keep himself in fighting shape even in retirement.
Mayweather-Pacquiao II is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 19, with ‘Money’ set to first fight in an exhibition against Mike Tyson in the Democratic Republic of Congo on April 25.
