MEXICAN super-middleweight Jaime Munguia has spoken out following the news that broke yesterday, revealing an A sample drug test, taken after his win over Bruno Surace, contained an adverse finding.

Munguia sent out a communique on Instagram stating: “Throughout my boxing career, I have undergone numerous anti-doping tests and have never tested pusitive [sic].

“I was tested twice during this training camp, and both results came back negative, which is why receiving this notification of an adverse finding has been a complete surprise to me.

“Several experts have explained that there are multiple ways contamination can occur, and I am fully willing to undergo any retroactive, current, or future testing to demonstrate that I have always been a clean athlete.

“I will not make any further comments on this matter until the process is concluded with results of the B Sample.”

Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine initially revealed the news. Munguia’s likely next move is to request the results of said B sample to see if it contains anything different.

Should the B sample return similar results, the likelihood remains that his bout with Surace could be turned from a 12-round points win into a no-contest. That fight was a rematch of their contest in late 2024 that saw Surace cause a shock sixth-round upset by knockout.
