THE Canelo Alvarez-William Scull undercard in Riyadh will feature another super middleweight bout according to online reports.

On May 3 the bill-topper pits Canelo, 62-2-2 (39 KOs), the three-belt unified champion against IBF titlist Scull, 23-0 (9 KOs), in an undisputed title match. Victory for the Mexican will make him a two-time holder of all four belts at 168lbs.

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported yesterday that a rematch between Bruno Surace, 26-0-2 (5 KOs), and Jaime Munguia, 44-2 (35 KOs), will feature on the undercard.

Bruno Surace and Jaime Munguia are finalizing a deal for a May 3 rematch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, sources tell ESPN. The super middleweight fight will take place on the Canelo Alvarez-William Scull undercard. Surace KOed Munguia in December in ESPN's Upset of the Year.

Surace caused arguably the upset of 2024 in December with his sixth round knockout victory against Munguia who was fighting at home in Mexico for the first time in four contests. The Frenchman entered the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana as a huge underdog. Munguia was typically on the front foot early on targeting Surace’s body but the Marseille man landed a tasty uppercut in the fourth to remind everyone he wasn’t there to roll over. With just over 30 seconds left in round six Surace connected with a long right hand which dropped Munguia who then attempted to get back to his feet but his unsteadiness forced referee Juan Jose Ramirez to wave off the contest.

It was Munguia’s second defeat in three fights having lost to Canelo in their all-Mexican clash last May. Two months later Munguia signed a multi-fight deal with Top Rank and made a winning debut beating Erik Bazinyan by 10th round knockout in September.

Surace had never fought anyone of Munguia’s calibre let alone beat them during his professional career. The 26-year-old will likely go into the rematch as the underdog once again. Should Munguia suffer another defeat, however, it will plummet him further down the super middleweight rankings and severely dent his hopes of becoming a two-weight world champion having won his only world title – the WBO super welterweight – back in May 2018.
