UNBEATEN cruiserweights Jai Opetaia and David Nyika both hit the scales at 199.5 lbs ahead of their clash for the IBF and Ring Magazine titles.
Reigning champion Opetaia will return to the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia, for the first time since his monumental victory over Mairis Briedis.
Taking on the formidable southpaw is Nyika, a decorated amateur – with ten professional victories – who took this opportunity after mandatory challenger Huseyin Cinkara pulled out with an injury.
At this morning’s weigh-in, the pair came face-to-face for the final time before their clash, with neither fighter showing any signs of backing down in a fierce confrontation.
And so, with Nyika representing a tenacious and dangerous late-notice opponent, Opetaia will surely need to produce another scintillating performance to retain his titles tomorrow night.
