Jack Rafferty set to defend British title against Mark Chamberlain

A delectable domestic dustup between Jack Rafferty and Mark Chamberlain, delivered by Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren, is seemingly just around the corner.

According to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC), both parties have put pen to paper with a view to square off later this year.

And while a date and venue is yet to be announced, the two fighters – operating under the same Queensberry banner – have previously expressed an eagerness to secure their potential showdown.

Rafferty, 26-0 (17 KOs), claimed his British and Commonwealth super-lightweight titles against Henry Turner last October, dethroning the pre-fight favourite with a destructive ninth-round stoppage victory.

Sure enough, ‘The Demolition Man’ has proved worthy of his moniker in more recent months, too, with a seventh-round finish over Reece MacMillan in February only enhancing his fearsome reputation.

His last outing against Cory O’Regan, however, ended in somewhat controversial fashion, as a third-round knockdown – scored just after the referee called ‘break’ – ultimately led to another win inside the distance.

Chamberlain, 17-1 (12 KOs), meanwhile, has bounced back with just one eight-round points victory since losing to Josh Padley, in what was a sizable upset, last September.

Now campaigning at 140lbs, the 26-year-old – whose most notable win arrived against Gavin Gwynn last year – looks to restore his momentum on the domestic scene.

And as far as the BBBoC is concerned, he will be presented with the opportunity to do just that against Rafferty, with the winner expected to defend his Lonsdale Belt against Kay Prospere.

In the Board’s latest championship circular, it states: “Following [an] agreement being reached between the parties, the above contest [Rafferty vs Chamberlain], to be promoted by Frank Warren, will take place on a date and at a venue to be advised.

“The winner to waive grace and defend against Kayamba Prospere.”
