Jack Catterall tops Eubank Jr vs Benn 2 undercard in London

A FORMER undisputed world title challenger will headline the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 undercard on November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Back in April, at the same venue, the fierce rivals were supported by Liam Smith vs Aaron McKenna, Anthony Yarde vs Lyndon Arthur 3, Cheavon Clarke vs Viddal Riley and Chris Billam-Smith vs Brandon Glanton.

This time, five fights have been confirmed for the undercard, topped by welterweight Jack Catterall, 31-2 (13 KOs). The Chorley southpaw has linked up with in-demand American trainer Bozy Ennis and will face Ekow Essuman, 22-1 (8 KOs). Both men share a common opponent in Josh Taylor. Catterall finally secured victory over his arch-rival in May 2024, while Essuman gave his career a huge boost when he upset Taylor in Glasgow four months later.

Super-lightweight prospect Adam Azim, 13-0 (10 KOs), returns from a nine-month layoff to meet world lightweight contender Zaur Abdullaev, 20-2 (12 KOs). The Russian dropped a wide points decision to the highly rated Raymond Muratalla in their IBF interim title fight in May. Now moving up five pounds, Abdullaev will test himself against the speedy Azim, who stopped veteran Sergey Lipinets in February.

Elsewhere, former cruiserweight and now heavyweight Richard Riakporhe, 18-1 (14 KOs), faces Tommy Welch, 16-0 (9 KOs). Riakporhe, now trained by Billy Nelson, had been due to fight Lawrence Okolie in Manchester on April 5 before injury forced Okolie to withdraw. Welch, son of former British heavyweight champion Scott, has been building his record in six and eight-round bouts but takes a major step up against the ex-world cruiserweight title challenger.

Former English and Commonwealth super-welterweight champion Sam Gilley, 18-1-1 (9 KOs), meets Ishmael Davis 13-3 (6 KOs), who recently dropped a hard-fought decision to Caoimhin Agyarko in Belfast.

Rounding out the card is Mikie Tallon, 10-0 (1 KO). Fresh from a win in Las Vegas, the Joe Gallagher-trained flyweight takes on Fezan Shahid, 4-2-2, in his 11th professional contest.
