JACK CATTERALL has officially parted ways with Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, insisting that the two Manchester trainers remain his ‘best friends.’
For nearly a decade, the team has enjoyed ample success and shared many fond memories, but the time has come for Catterall, 31-2 (13 KOs), to enter a new chapter in his career.
Perhaps most notably, the slick southpaw was denied a monumental victory in 2022, back when he lost a highly controversial decision to Josh Taylor.
Victory would have seen Catterall emerge as the undisputed super-lightweight king and, even now, he continues to chase his dream of becoming a world champion.
It was only last year, though, that the Chorley man avenged his defeat to Taylor, this time coming away with a comprehensive unanimous decision victory.
After that, he survived a knockdown to outpoint former two-time world champion Regis Prograis – arguably securing a career-best win – only to then lose a razor-thin decision against Arnold Barboza Jr earlier this year.
Catterall then got back to winning ways with a technical decision victory in April, representing his last outing with Moore and Travis in his corner.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to part ways with my coaches, and more importantly my best friends, Jamie and Nigel,” Catterall wrote in a statement on X.
“I can’t put into words how much I owe them both for the last five years, but I’ll forever be grateful to them both for not only the time they have put into me, but for the friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Catterall’s somewhat surprising announcement arrives at a time when he is rumoured to face Ekow Essuman, who comes off a victory over Taylor, on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2.
Their potential welterweight matchup, which has been reported by various outlets, is, indeed, expected to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, on November 15.
Following his departure from Moore and Travis, though, Catterall is still yet to reveal his training team ahead of that fight.
