Moses Itauma has plotted a potential world title fight that could materialise if he emerges victorious against Filip Hrgovic on August 29.

The two heavyweights will headline a Queensberry Promotions card at London’s O2 Arena, with many expecting this to be Itauma’s toughest assignment thus far.

Up to this point, the 21-year-old has secured 14 dominant victories in the professional ranks, including a fifth-round finish over the typically durable Jermaine Franklin in March.

Hrgovic is set to represent his first opponent at world level, with the Croatian’s only defeat arriving via an eighth-round stoppage against Daniel Dubois in June 2024.

If he is to get past Hrgovic, then Itauma has not ruled out the possibility of challenging for a world title in his next outing against Agit Kabayel.

Speaking with Sky Sports last week, Itauma – who is ranked No.3 by the WBC – said he would be open to a clash with the undefeated 33-year-old from Germany.

“If Usyk doesn’t fight Kabayel and he relinquishes the title, I would not mind fighting Kabayel if I get past Hrgovic.”

Itauma’s plans have received a significant boost since he floated the idea. Oleksandr Usyk has now vacated all three of his heavyweight world titles, and the WBC – as predicted – wasted no time in upgrading Kabayel to full champion.

The only contenders ranked above Itauma are Tyson Fury and Lawrence Okolie, who, for different reasons, are unlikely to secure a WBC title shot anytime soon. Pair that with the fact that a Hrgovic win will likely bump Itauma up, he looks in prime position.
