Itauma and Dubois jostling for position among heavyweight rivals

AS Fabio Wardley and Joseph Parker let fly in the ring, a collection of heavyweights assembled to organise themselves. Despite DAZN bringing them all together, while trying to tease out a third fight between Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte, nothing was actually confirmed.

Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma were both in attendance, showing their faces as the heavyweight puzzle pieces slide into place. Too busy enjoying the atmosphere to make a prediction, Dubois sat on the fence with a “may the best man win” vibe.

Whether the best man actually won is still being debated today. Howard Foster’s intervention at 1-54 of round 11 was hotly contested. That said, no shade on Fabio Wardley, who did his job perfectly.

“Yeah, of course,” said Dubois when asked if he would fight the winner of the main event. There was less certainty when asked for a date.

“Hopefully, real soon. Can’t speak about who I’m going to be fighting next, but hopefully soon,” he told the DAZN interviewer.

Speaking later from across the O2 Arena, Dubois’ Queensberry stablemate, Moses Itauma, had little more information. Lauded by many as the next big thing in the division, Itauma needs a test, or activity at a minimum.

“I don’t even know when my next fight is, so hopefully December, if not December, February,” he grumbled.

Itauma went on to admit that there were lots of names in the frame. Promoter Frank Warren later stated to other media outlets that his man would not be seen before the end of the year.

Itauma added: “I mean, I don’t mind who I fight. Initially, I wanted Hrgovic, but we couldn’t make that fight happen, so God knows, I hope Frank’s got something in the bag for me.”

Itauma was clearer on his main event prediction. Once he’d untwisted a tongue that was about to pick Parker, he backed his man Fab.

“I was about to say Joseph. I’ve got to back my man Fabio. I think Fabio late knockout.”

Good call, Moses.
