Isaac Cruz was the first man to go the full 12-round distance with Gervonta Davis.

The pair met back in December 2021, with Cruz pushing ‘Tank’ all the way throughout the contest, as the judges scored it 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 in favour of Davis as he retained his WBA lightweight title.

Davis went from strength to strength after that fight, claiming four straight wins over the likes of Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero, but the last 12 months have been difficult for the American.

He was held to a controversial majority decision draw with Lamont Roach in March, and then was set to have an exhibition with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November, only for it to be cancelled after ‘Tank’ was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations.

As for Cruz, he won the WBA super-lightweight title after his fight with Davis, and now holds the WBC interim strap at 140lbs, fighting to his own majority decision draw with Roach earlier this month.

Speaking in the aftermath of that fight, Davis made it clear that he would be interested in a rematch with Cruz, and now the Mexican has responded.

When asked by ESPN Knockout who his top three targets would be for his next fight, Cruz said that ‘Tank’ is at the top of the list.

“First would be Gervonta Davis, then Subriel Matias, and why not Ryan Garcia. I think those three names would be fantastic for my first fight of 2026.”

Matias is set to defend his WBC super-lightweight title against Dalton Smith next month, while Garcia is expected to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in February, so with Davis the only of the three to not have a fight scheduled, it could pave the way for it to happen.
