Is now the time to make Carl Frampton-Scott Quigg?

SUPER-bantamweight rivals Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg were both in action on Saturday (July 18). Quigg destroyed former Frampton opponent Kiko Martinez in two rounds while Carl had his first fight in the USA, touching down twice in the first round with unheralded Alejandro Gonzalez, before going on to win an exciting fight on points. Pitting Frampton against Quigg is now more appealing than ever.

Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn however said, “The problem is I’ve made my original offer. I don’t think there’s anyone that wouldn’t say, Scott Quigg is in a better position now than he was on Friday. So how can I go back and make a better offer? Scott Quig’s turning round to me and saying, ‘Hang on a minute, I’ve just looked sensational, Frampton’s got dropped twice. Of course he had a bigger audience on TV but ultimately I’m in a better position.’ So it might be a case of going back and saying this is the offer again, it’s now even bigger. What do you think?

“Do you lose a fight for five percent or make the fight and make a fortune?”

Barry McGuigan, who manages Frampton, told us their stance HERE and both boxers now have other options. Advised by Al Haymon, Frampton has an eye on the Leo Santa Cruz-Abner Mares winner, while Nonito Donaire has been suggested as an opponent for Quigg.

“Bob Arum talks about making [Quigg-Donaire] in Dubai. I think he’s coming back to us on that. I’d like to make it in Manchester and I think now it can be in Manchester. Quigg has no problems going to Dubai if the deal’s right,” Hearn said, but added, “We’ve done a job building him. The atmosphere for Quigg was pretty special.”
