THE return of the old Deontay Wilder could potentially shake up the heavyweight division, but recent form suggests that Wilder’s best days are long behind him. Tonight, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ makes his comeback to prove that he can still hang with the heavyweight elite.
Wilder, 43-4-1 (42 KOs), ruled as the WBC heavyweight champion for over half a decade, knocking out his opponent in all nine victories as a titleholder before being stopped himself by Tyson Fury in 2020.
Defeat to ‘The Gypsy King’ kickstarted a devastating run for the Tuscaloosa-born knockout artist and at 39 years old, Wilder now finds himself well and truly out of the title picture – having lost four of his last five contests.
As a result, Wilder has scored just one win since 2019 but tonight he seeks to rediscover both that victorious feeling and some long-awaited momentum, tasked with Texas’ Tyrrell Herndon, 24-5 (15 KOs), who has been stopped on four occasions.
Wilder-Herndon headlines the bill at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas, but for those who cannot be in attendance, the card is being streamed live on BLK Prime.
Although many assumed that the event would be a pay-per-view one, as Crawford-Avanesyan was on the same platform back in 2022, it is instead included with a regular BLK Prime subscription, which costs $6.99 per month and can be purchased here.
The main card and live stream are scheduled to begin at 1am BST, with Wilder and Herndon facing off in the main event around 4am BST.
