HOW big will Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook be? Four days ahead of their middleweight title fight on September 10 the early indicators, in terms of pay-per-view buys, are as large as anything Matchroom have promoted in the last two years. So far it is tracking alongside Carl Froch vs George Groves. It is though early days yet.

“We’re 100 percent away from how big it’s going to be on Friday,” explained promoter Eddie Hearn. “Probably 90 percent of pay-per-views are bought on Saturday, so they do track it but this is beating everything we’ve done in the last couple of years. So I don’t know.

“The only one is Mayweather-Pacquiao, which I don’t know the tracking figures for that. It [Golovkin] is up there with Froch-Groves numbers. So again that might transcend to nothing on the night, it might do 400,000 buys but it fell like it could do 6, 7, 8[00,000]. I don’t know. It’s so captivating the fight. Everyone’s talking about it, everyone’s asking about it.”

Hearn highlighted the whole bill, which features three world title fights, including Charlie Edwards challenging John Riel Casimero. “Casimero, I’ve been watching a little bit of him and he’s very heavy handed and looks tough as nails but Charlie looks massive. Charlie got in the ring and looked huge,” Hearn said. “I’m actually going for a late stoppage for Charlie Edwards. I know he’s not a huge puncher. But I think he’s going to pepper him all night and I think he’s going to mark up his face but it’s going to be an absolute war that fight and I can’t wait.”

“I hope that [Lee] Haskins against [Stuey] Hall, which on paper should be good, I hope that the styles can [gel]. I know Haskins can be very awkward but Hall’s going to be on him all night and again [Martin] Ward-[Andy] Townend, another really good fight. For this card actually I’ve had more criticism from the casual fans who are saying there’s no big names on the card. I’m saying look at the fights,” he continued. “You add Callum Smith in a relatively easy fight – ‘oh good’. Really I think it’s a cracking card and of course culminating in the big one.”
