Conor Benn was knocked out by Ryan Garcia in an unsuccessful world title bid earlier this month, and former promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted that there is only one viable option for his former fighter.
Hearn was Benn’s career-long promoter until the beginning of this year, when the Essex-born contender made the dramatic decision to ditch Matchroom Boxing and sign with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
Benn has underwhelmed in his two bouts under White’s tutelage, failing to put a dent into a wounded Regis Prograis and then being halted inside two rounds when challenging for Garcia’s WBC welterweight title.
Speaking with iFL TV, Hearn suggested that Benn should revisit his trilogy with Chris Eubank Jr. – who Hearn has been linked to signing in recent weeks.
“Conor Benn has got nowhere to go. Unless he wants to have a tough fight – and he will get knocked out again. Conor is probably looking at the Eubank fight and thinking, ‘that is really my only fight.'”
Hearn is understood to have had a meeting with Eubank Jr but he revealed that no further talks are planned at present whilst maintaining that the clash should be fought on the 37-year-old’s terms.
“If I am representing Chris Eubank Jr, I am saying, ‘You have got a lot of options, if Conor wants to come back then you do it at your weight, with no rehydration clause and on your terms. If not, we will go and fight someone else,’.
“We have got none [talks] planned, but I love storylines and f***ery and so does he. I thought that I was the king of f***ery, well it might be Eubank. It could be a sweet partnership.”
There was plenty of animosity between Eubank Jr and Hearn in last year’s two Eubank-Benn grudge matches, so the pair teaming up to take on Benn could make for one of the biggest storylines of 2027.
