Guido Vianello to deliver Richard Torrez Jr’s first acid test in Sin City

RICHARD Torrez Jr looks to accelerate his progression when he squares off against Guido Vianello in an intriguing heavyweight clash on April 5.

It was announced via Top Rank’s social media channels yesterday that the pair will lock horns at the Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas.

More than anything, this matchup represents a sizable step up in levels for Torrez, 12-0 (11 KOs), whose professional development has trudged along at a fairly pedestrian pace thus far.

The American entered the paid ranks shortly after claiming silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, losing to formidable two-time Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov in the final.

As a professional, though, Torrez is yet to claim a notable scalp, with perhaps his most significant victory arriving against Joey Dawejko last year.

Still, albeit against more limited opposition, the 25-year-old has proven to be a dynamic and fluid operator in the land of the giants; his hand speed and sharp reflexes compensating for a clear lack of size.

Vianello, 13-2-1 (11 KOs), meanwhile, has responded well since losing to Jonathan Rice in a surprising turn of events back in 2023.

In fact, last year saw two tremendous displays from the 30-year-old, with the first of which resulting in a highly contentious split decision defeat to Efe Ajagba.

The Italian then secured an emphatic eighth-round stoppage victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov, a heavyweight who was previously known as the bogeyman of his division.

And so, while Torrez enters by far and away the toughest test of his pro career, Vianello will surely be gleaming with confidence following his fine run of performances.
