Ginjiro Shigeoka’s brother provides positive update on fighter’s condition

AS the world of boxing crossed its collective fingers for Ginjiro Shigeoka, his brother Yudai has now provided a positive update on his health, which is improving.

Ginjiro Shigeoka, 11-2 (9 KOs), knocked out Daniel Valladares to claim the IBF mini-flyweight world title back in October 2023, but would make just one defence before losing the belt to Pedro Taduran in an upset defeat.

On Saturday, Shigeoka and Taduran fought in a rematch. Once again, it was Taduran who came out on top, this time via split decision, but attention turned to Shigeoka after the 25-year-old collapsed shortly after the decision announcement.

It has since been revealed that the hard-hitting southpaw has undergone an emergency craniotomy in Osaka after suffering an acute right subdural hematoma.

On Instagram, former WBC minimumweight champion Yudai Shigeoka, 9-2 (5 KOs), explained that his brother is now breathing on his own.

“On the fifth day of his hospitalization, Ginjiro was initially unable to breathe without a respiratory apparatus, he can now breathe on his own, with other health indicators also showing improvement.”

Ginjiro Shigeoka remains in the thoughts and prayers of the boxing universe as fans await additional news of further improvements in his condition.
