After losing out on a lucrative showdown with Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis’ plans have been spoiled. Now, the mandatory challenger for his WBA lightweight world title has called for his shot at the 135lb throne.

Davis was set to face Paul earlier this month, until ‘Tank’ was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations – causing the cancellation of the contest, with Davis now being replaced by Anthony Joshua for the postponed fight date.

That outing would have been Davis’ second of the calendar, after picking up the first blemish on his professional record when he drew with Lamont Roach Jr. back in March, in what was his second defence of the full WBA lightweight crown.

Currently, it is unclear when Davis will return to action, if ever, but WBA mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield has now publicly demanded a fight with the Baltimore-born brute on his X account.

“We are his [Davis’] mandatory opponent @WBABoxing. We want to fight the best and Tank is levels above Shakur [Stevenson].

“This is a major step up from a Shakur; but we ready.”

As alluded to in the post, Schofield was scheduled to face Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight world title earlier this year but pulled out of the bout during fight week because of illness.

‘Kid Austin’ has since returned to action, where he scored a sensational first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer in what looks set to be his singular outing of the year, having also withdrawn from a planned November clash with JoJo Diaz due to injury.
