George Kambosos and Richardson Hitchins’ rivalry could reach boiling point in 2025

George Kambosos and Richardson Hitchins’ rivalry could reach boiling point in 2025
Kambosos hasn't won in Australia since 2017.

GEORGE Kambosos Jr and Richardson Hitchins have continued to trade barbs on social media, adding an extra layer of spice to their potential showdown.

The pair ignited an X-rated exchange towards the end of last year, shortly after Hitchins, 19-0 (7 KOs), dethroned Liam Paro for the IBF world super lightweight title.

It was a performance, more importantly, that showcased his crafty footwork and elusive defensive manoeuvres, with the 27-year-old’s style representing a nightmare for most contenders at 140 lbs.

Nevertheless, Kambosos, 21-3 (10 KOs), swiftly expressed his desire to face Hitchins following his comprehensive victory, looking to become a two-division world champion.

Since causing a monumental upset to topple lightweight king Teofimo Lopez back in 2021, ‘Ferocious’ has struggled to replicate the same success in his last four outings.

After suffering two wide unanimous decision defeats against Devin Haney, Kambosos bounced back with a highly contentious majority decision victory over Maxi Hughes.

Then, when he found himself on the receiving end of a clinical 11-round display from Vasyl Lomachenko last year, it seemed as if the Australian was at risk of falling into obscurity.

But now, with new promoter Eddie Hearn hoping to get his career back on track, it appears as though the tide could be turning for Kambosos.

And yet, while he looks set to headline an Australian show in March against a different opponent, the 31-year-old has made no attempt to hide his determination to lock horns with Hitchins.

“[Hitchins] can’t keep me out of his thoughts like a goofy ass ex begging,” Kambosos wrote on X earlier this month. “It’s getting old now, either sign the fight or stay broke. Happy [New Year] you broke bum.”
