Three-time world super-middleweight title challenger George Groves will return to the ring at the Copper Box Arena in London on January 30.
In his last outing the Londoner was dropped and eventually outpointed by WBC champion Badou Jack in September and subsequently split with trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick.
His promoters, the Sauerlands, today tweeted that Groves will return in January against an opponent yet to be named. Further details, including who Groves will now be trained by, are expected in the coming weeks.
“It’s great to be back,’’ he said.
“I’m looking forward to boxing in London again. This is a chance for me start the New Year on the front foot. I want to get as many fights as possible and start building momentum as I look to work my way back into World title contention.’’
John Wayne Hibbert defends his Commonwealth super-lightweight title against Tommy Martin in the chief support bout, with John Ryder also on the bill.
The Sauerlands will work with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing on the Copper Box show.
Brentwood’s Kris Agyei-Dua defends his Southern Area super-welterweight title against unbeaten Chadwell Heath man Ben Hall in an Essex derby while Wiltshire’s Kelvin Young faces unbeaten Croydon southpaw Leon McKenzie in an eliminator for the English super-middleweight title.
Plus there’s action for undefeated prospects Ohara Davies, Reece Bellotti, Ted Cheeseman, Lucien Reid and Craig Richards.
