George Groves could fight on Floyd Mayweather’s undercard

GEORGE GROVES’ fight with Badou Jack for the Swede’s WBC world super-middleweight title has been postponed from its original August 22 date.

Neither man is injured, but the fight was scheduled to be aired by Showtime in America and a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed to ESPN that the date has been moved.

“Showtime doesn’t have a live boxing event on August 22,” said Chris DeBlastio, Showtime’s vice president of sports communications.

“We had contemplated doing it [that date], but it didn’t materialise.”
Rumours emerged when the bout was first announced that it could land on the undercard of Floyd

Mayweather’s alleged final fight on September 12, given that Jack operates under Mayweather Promotions.

That speculation has now heightened after this latest development, though a new date has not yet been confirmed.

However, Groves tweeted yesterday (July 22) that he had just completed the WBC’s 30-day check weigh in, adding confusion to the situation.

Groves’ promoters, Team Sauerland, have since contacted the WBC to request that purse bids for the bout be immediately held, as Mayweather Promotions have allegedly not met the terms of the original deal.
