GEORGE GROVES and Eduard Gutknecht successfully made weight yesterday for their super-middleweight clash at Wembley Arena later tonight.

The pair will meet with a lofty WBA world ranking at stake – and a potential shot at the vacant world title.

Groves tipped the scales at 11st 13lb 7oz while Gutknecht was bang on the 12st limit at yesterday’s weigh-in. Groves is pursuing a fourth shot at a world title having twice been beaten by Carl  Froch and losing to WBC champion Badou Jack last year.

Former European light-heavyweight champion Gutknecht unsuccessfully challenged then-WBO super-middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz back in 2010 and has twice lost to secondary WBA champion Juergen Braehmer at 175lbs.

Felix Sturm recently vacated the WBA super-middleweight title after suffering an injury, though prior to that had failed a drug test after his title win over Fedor Chudinov. He protests his innocence.

The WBA are yet to announce who they will order to vie for the vacant title, though it is likely Chudinov will be one of the combatants. Groves is currently ranked third by the Panama-based outfit behind Chudinov and Stanislav Kashtanov. Tyron Zuege recently won the secondary WBA title against Giovanni de Carolis, keeping himself in the mix.
