Gennady “GGG” Golovkin defneds his WBA (Super) and WBC middleweight titles against American challenger Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Context
Previously May 5 was set for a Las Vegas rematch between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Golovkin following their majority draw in September of 2017, which saw GGG retain his titles and the fight be surrounded with controversy as judge Adalaide Byrd scored the fight 118–110 in Alvarez’s favour.
The fight was cancelled on April 3 when Canelo withdrew from the contest following two failed drug tests which the Mexican put down to contaminated meat.
Martirosyan was announced as the replacement on April 18, but the IBF title will not be on the line as he is not sanctioned by the governing body.

Fight card – The rundown
Gennady Golovkin v Vanes Martirosyan – 12 rounds Middleweight
A late replacement for Alvarez, Martirosyan challenges for his first middleweight world title having previously failed twice at light-middleweight. Golovkin holds a record of 37 wins and 33 knockouts, with just the one draw.
Cecilia Braekhus v Kali Reis – Female 10 rounds Welterweight
Boxing’s only undisputed champion Braekhus defends her WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO female world titles for the fifth time against former middleweight champion Reis. The fight is the first ever live female bout shown on HBO.
Ryan Martin v Breidis Prescott – 10 rounds Super Lightweight
The undefeated Martin competes in fight number 22 against Prescott, who is most known in the UK for his first round knockout of former two weight world champion Amir Khan in 2008, handing the Brit his first defeat. The Columbian has also suffered defeats to Kevin Mitchell and Terence Crawford in his 30-12 career record.
Brian Ceballo v TBA – 4 rounds Welterweight
Former amateur star Ceballo competes in his second fight since turning professional this year with a stoppage win against Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez Longoria.
