ON April 23, two of the world’s best fighters will box on the same card.

Gennady Golovkin will defend his WBA and IBF world middleweight titles against Dominic Wade while Roman Gonzalez defends his WBC world flyweight title on the undercard against McWilliams Arroyo.

Golovkin, who is seeking a unification fight with WBC champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, feels this card will be a treat for fight fans.

“I have a new chance to show you my style. I’m not just excited for my fight, but also for ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez’s,” he said.

“It’s a big gift, a present, for the fans. You ask me, why Dominic Wade? It’s because he’s undefeated and the IBF mandatory challenger. It’s very interesting for me.”

Wade was moved into the mandatory position after Tureano Johnson, the original number one challenger, picked up an injury.

Unbeaten in 18 (12 stoppages), Wade is coming off of his best win – a 10 round split decision over an ancient Sam Soliman.

Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, acknowledged that he is fairly anonymous to most fans. He said: “Wade is a guy I followed in the amateurs, who’s had a slow professional career but he’s in the mandatory position now.

“He’s a guy the public may not know a lot about, but I know a lot about him. We’re going to prepare like he’s a champion, because he’s coming to fight. I’m sure he’s coming in shape, I’m sure he’s coming ready.”
