Ryan Garcia has named who he is set to share the ring with in his next outing.
Garcia was in action last month as he defeated Mario Barrios to win the WBC welterweight title, marking the first time that ‘King Ry’ has held world honours in his career.
The 27-year-old is one of the biggest names in the sport, having also been involved in big fights against the likes of Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis.
‘King Ry’ was victorious against Haney before the result was later changed to a no contest after a failed drugs test, but he suffered a stoppage loss against Davis, and the rivalry between the two men hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down since then.
Garcia recently took aim at Davis, hitting out at ‘Tank’ over the level of opposition that he has fought, and in doing so, seems to have confirmed who his next opponent is set to be.
Speaking on the Creators Think Podcast, Garcia’s criticism of Davis led to him stating that he is set to meet Teofimo Lopez next.
“Other than myself, who has he fought? I’m out here fighting Devin Haney, Tank Davis, now I’m about to fight Teofimo. I’m fighting everybody that’s in front of me.”
Lopez is another of the sport’s biggest names, having previously reigned as unified lightweight champion and WBO super-lightweight champion, though he lost his 140lb belt to Shakur Stevenson back in January.
After that defeat, Lopez suggested that he could move up to welterweight for his next bout, and it appears it could now come in a world title showdown against Garcia.
