Ryan Garcia has been linked to a number of opponents for his next outing but he says there is only one man he is targeting.
After a number of years as one of the biggest names in the sport, Garcia finally became world champion in February when he claimed a dominant unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to win the WBC welterweight title.
Since that victory, ‘King Ry’ has been rumoured to make his return against several different rivals, including WBO champion Devin Haney, WBA champion Rolly Romero, and two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez.
For one reason or another, all of those fights have failed to materialise, and a new frontrunner to take on Garcia has emerged in recent weeks, after British star Conor Benn defeated Regis Prograis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month.
After his win, Benn immediately called out ‘King Ry’ for a world title showdown, and Garcia was quick to respond as a war of words began between the two fighters.
In a new video captured by Fight Hub TV, Garcia has now ruled out taking on anybody else and says that Benn is the only man that he wants to face.
“I can’t wait man. It’s going to be August. [I don’t want] Nobody [else]. I only want Conor.”
Benn is ranked number one with the WBC in their welterweight rankings, so a clash against ‘King Ry’ seemed a formality, though Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has revealed a potential stumbling block with the fight.
