Carl Froch has shared his verdict on this weekend’s rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley.

Dubois defends his WBO heavyweight title against Wardley at The O2 Arena in London on Saturday, five months on from dethroning the Ipswich man of his belt in a fight of the year contender.

Wardley had Dubois down twice early in their first meeting, but ‘DDD’ rallied and went on to dominate the action, culminating in an 11th round stoppage win.

Having witnessed the first battle, former super-middleweight world champion Froch told Sun Boxing that it would be a big upset if Wardley is able to avenge his loss on Saturday.

“I probably need to adjust from what I said earlier about if they fight 10 times Wardley loses 10 times, maybe he can win one of the ten. That one can be on Saturday. When they fight that could be the night because he is a puncher, he can bang, and if he goes for it he has a chance.

“You just have to look at everything. If you put their history and what they’ve done into a computer and it kicks out the winner, it’s going to be Daniel Dubois, but it’s heavyweight boxing.”

Froch then went on to explain exactly what Wardley needs to do if he is to have any chance of success.

“Wardley can cause the upset, and it would be an upset. If he comes out and forces the stoppage, Daniel has a good chin and can take a punch but he still has that in him to go down in one knee and take a breather, then what happens when he gets up and he’s got more shots pounding on him, does he take another knee? Then does the referee say I’ve had enough.

“Wardley has got to try and force a stoppage, he has to get on him early. Not go out in round one swinging like a lunatic but get on his front foot, stick it on him and try to get him out of there. That’s his only chance, but it could happen.”

Froch isn’t the only big name to break down the Dubois vs. Wardley rematch, with his former rival George Groves also weighing in with his prediction.
