FRANKIE GAVIN is open to a fight with British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Sam Eggington but is not interested in winning those titles.
Gavin previously held both belts but vacated them, at different times, before his unsuccessful world title bid against Kell Brook in May.
Eggington added the British title to his Commonwealth strap on Saturday when he beat Glenn Foot on a technical decision and Gavin was impressed with what he saw.
“Eggington was very good. I thought Glenn Foot was poor to be fair, he never got in it,” he told Boxing News.
“Eggington switched his tactics round so he boxed instead of fought, he looked good.
“You can’t take anything away from him, he almost because a journeyman and now he’s British and Commonwealth champion. He’s achieved his goal and a lot more.”
After the 21-year-old’s win, Gavin took to Twitter to confirm he would be interested in fighting Eggington in a Birmingham derby.
Gavin has previously confirmed he will be moving down to light-welterweight but stated he would be willing to put that move off if a clash with Eggington emerges.
“I’d fight Eggington on October 17, if Eddie Hearn wants it, I’m up for it. I would fight at 10st 4lbs just for that fight, it’s a big derby.
“I don’t really want the British and Commonwealth titles, I’d let him keep hold of them. I gave up those belts, I don’t need them back. I don’t mind, I would fight for them but if they didn’t want to put them on the line that’s no problem.
“The plan was to fight at 10 stone 4lbs for my next fight and then 10 stone in December for a big title at light-welterweight.”
Gavin was also quick to insist there is no bad blood between the two of them and that his interest in the fight would stem from the public’s desire to see it.
“I like Sam, I’ve got nothing against him but Eddie’s my promoter and if he wants it then we can get it on. I wouldn’t turn anyone down,” he claimed.
“A big well done to Sam though. I’ve got nothing against him and I’m not calling him out, but if it’s what the public wants I’ll have it.”
