Frank Warren has responded to rumours that Tyson Fury is injured ahead of his long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua on December 11.
The pair are due to meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, colliding for the WBA ‘super’ title and, in turn, the chance to become a three-time world champion.
Fury was the first to claim major honours, dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 before toppling Deontay Wilder for the WBC title around five years later.
Joshua, meanwhile, seized the IBF title against Charles Martin in 2016 and would eventually reclaim his three belts in a rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr.
It is fair to say, though, that both heavyweights are far removed from these prime versions of themselves, not to mention at an age where injuries typically become more common.
And while nothing has been confirmed, there are now circulating rumours that Fury could be unable to enter their Battle of Britain next month.
According to former world heavyweight champion Frank Bruno, who recently spoke with Fight Your Corner, the 38-year-old has picked up an injury in training camp.
The details of which are unspecified, but while Bruno claims there is a possibility of Fury withdrawing from his clash with Joshua, promoter Warren has told Boxing News that he has heard nothing of the sort.
“That’s news to me. Absolute news to me.”
It remains to be seen whether Fury is fit and healthy but, even if he is, the ‘Gypsy King’ is unlikely to produce a career-best performance against Joshua.
Rather, those who are backing Fury seem to be doing so largely because of Joshua’s last outing, where he survived two knockdowns before stopping Kristian Prenga in the second round.
