Frank Warren: Bradley Saunders did not discuss switch to Matchroom with me

FRANK WARREN wishes Bradley Saunders well as the light-welterweight joins Matchroom promotions, but insists the fighter did not discuss the switch with him.

The Hall of Fame promoter guided the fighter through his first 10 professional outings after signing him at the end of his amateur career, and Saunders leaves with a WBO world ranking.

“The contract came to an end and I wish him all the best,” said Warren, “but I see his comments that he phoned me and we had a discussion about it – we didn’t. If we did I’m getting old and I don’t remember that conversation.

“Okay, it’s a shame he didn’t have more fights. He had a couple of hand injuries and operations, he had an eye operation which kept him out over the past three months, so that was a great shame, but it is what it is and we move on.

“I like him as a fighter and I did a good job with him under the circumstances.”

Saunders is set to make his debut under Eddie Hearn’s outfit on November 22 in an eight-rounder on the Nathan Cleverly-Tony Bellew undercard in Liverpool.
