Frank Warren and Tyson Fury: promotional status clarified following Netflix announcement

The promotional situation involving Tyson Fury and Frank Warren has been cleared up ahead of ‘The Gypsy King’ returning to the ring.

It was officially confirmed this week that Fury would come out of retirement and continue with his fighting career, as he takes on Arslanbek Makhmudov in the UK on April 11.

The event will be streamed live on Netflix and that, paired with a lack of Queensberry’s logo on the poster, led some fans to question whether Fury’s long-term promoter Warren would be involved

Fury’s manager Spencer Brown has now addressed those queries, insisting to IFL TV that Warren, who last year signed a broadcast deal with DAZN, remains the promoter of ‘The Gypsy King.’

“Tyson has done his series on Netflix and this fight is put on with Ring Magazine. Everybody has had involvement but in the background really. I’ve been asked today about Frank Warren, ‘is he Tyson’s promoter?’ Of course he’s Tyson’s promoter. Do you think he’s not? Don’t be silly.

“Frank knows everything that is going on. None of us got put on the poster, that’s Gold Star as well, but it was very clean and clinical and the way it went, but Frank Warren is definitely Tyson Fury’s promoter.”

Fury’s fight with Makhmudov will mark the Brit’s first fight since back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, as the two-time world heavyweight champion bids to return to world title contention, where he could land a trilogy bout against Usyk or a shot at WBO champion and domestic rival Fabio Wardley — also promoted by Warren — later this year.

Makhmudov will attempt to derail those plans though, as the Russian looks to build on his victory over Dave Allen from October.
