Four wins for the USA on day one of the American Confederation championships

THE American Confederation Boxing Championships began on Monday (August 17) in Venezuela, a significant event through which boxers can qualify for the World championships later this year. The Worlds in turn will an Olympic qualification event.

Super-heavyweight Cam F. Awesome beat Jean Carlos Mina for all three judges.

Flyweight Brent Venegas edged out Brazil’s Julio de Miranda on a split decision and American welterweight Brian Ceballo beat Sasan Haghight-Joo, from Canada, by unanimous decision.

US light-heavy Steve Nelson outscored Chile’s Julio Alamos by unanimous decision. American lightweight Carlos Balderas lost unanimously to the host nation’s Luis Cabrera.
