A past rival of both Terence Crawford and Adrien Broner will soon be back in action.
Crawford is a five-weight world champion, retiring last year after his win over Canelo Alvarez, while Broner has claimed world honours in four divisions, with his latest outing coming in June 2024.
It is a man that the pair each took on around a decade ago that is set to return though, after it was announced that John Molina Jr will make the transition to to BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing.
Molina challenged Crawford for his WBC and WBO super lightweight titles in December 2016, suffering an eighth round TKO defeat. Meeting Broner just over 18 months earlier, Molina had lost a unanimous decision.
The 43-year-old was last in action in September 2019 when he was beaten by Josesito Lopez, but nearly seven years on Molina has explained why he will return in bareknuckle.
“We’re going to get right to business. So it works out perfect. It lends itself perfectly to someone with my style.
“When I started seeing other names like Paulie and Victor, who we were together under the same banner of PBC, I think it’s going to be a good fit for all of us to get out there and showcase our abilities.
“My legacy is to be a champion in the sport of bare knuckle boxing and for people to say, ‘Hey,he fought the best of the best and was considered one of the most entertaining fighters in the world during his era of fighting.’ Now I’m gonna take it over to bare knuckle boxing to be a champion in my respective weight class. Who knows? Maybe we crossed the bridge with Paulie. Maybe we cross the bridge with Victor. I think that can be explosive.”
As mentioned, Molina joins the likes of Paulie Malignaggi and Victor Ortiz who have both recently signed with BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing as the promotion continues to gain traction.
