Vasyl Lomachenko has been called out by a former world champion, who believes he would win by knockout if they lock horns later this year.

According to The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, Lomachenko is expected to call time on his retirement and return to action in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Ukrainian’s last outing took place in May 2024, when he claimed the IBF world lightweight title with an 11th-round finish over George Kambosos Jr.

This followed his unanimous decision defeat to Devin Haney, who many felt was fortunate to successfully defend his titles against the two-time Olympic champion.

Having cemented his legacy in both the professional and amateur codes, though, Lomachenko ultimately decided to step into retirement last June.

This was partly because the masterful southpaw had been experiencing back issues, which scuppered his plans to face Gervonta Davis towards the end of 2024.

Yet it is worth mentioning, too, that Lomachenko’s deal with Top Rank came to an end on May 12 of this year, meaning he is now a promotional free agent.

Hoping to face the 38-year-old, meanwhile, is Keyshawn Davis, who dethroned Denys Berinchyk for the WBO lightweight belt in February 2025.

But despite campaigning at 140lbs, and entering a rematch with Nahir Albright this Saturday, ‘The Businessman’ has told Fight Hub TV that he is nonetheless eager to collide with Lomachenko.

“Loma, fight me for your first fight back. Come on – let’s do it, Loma. I’ll come to Ukraine.

“You’re a legend, Loma. But if you decide to fight me, I’m knocking you out just like Berinchyk.”

It remains to be seen whether ‘Loma’ will join Davis at super-lightweight, as the more realistic option would be for him to campaign at 135lbs.
