Matt Christie previews Andre Ward next fight, vs Sullivan Barrera, in this week’s issue of Boxing News magazine. This is out now on our app and the print version is in stores on Thursday (March 24). Here is an excerpt.

FIFTY-ONE months have passed since Andre Ward bewitched Carl Froch to unify two chunks of the world super-middleweight titles, win the gruelling Super Six tournament, and convince many respected onlookers that he was the heir to Floyd Mayweather’s best-in-boxing throne. Unfortunately, those 51 months have included just three fights, and it’s a period of time that must be labelled a waste, despite the reasons for it being largely beyond his control. Enter Sullivan Barrera, whom Ward welcomes to Oakland’s Oracle Arena on Saturday (March 26). An unbeaten Cuban whose impressive physique is yet to be softened by living in Florida, Barrera has savaged 12 of his 17 victims inside schedule.
