FLOYD Schofield Snr has taken aim at Eddie Hearn after the Matchroom Boxing promoter suggested that his son was struggling with weight-making issues ahead of his cancelled showdown with Shakur Stevenson.
Stevenson, 22-0 (10 KOs), was set to defend his WBC world lightweight title this Saturday, taking on talented but largely unproven contender Floyd Schofield in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
His opponent, however, was forced to withdraw from their clash after being taken to hospital with an illness he suffered during fight week.
Ultimately, the decision to pull him out of the fight was made by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC), the recognised governing body overseeing this weekend’s event.
But when Schofield, 18-0 (22 KOs), failed to attend yesterday’s grand arrivals, Stevenson’s promoter Hearn began to express his concern to several media outlets.
The reason for the 22-year-old’s absence, Hearn suggested, was due to his difficulties in meeting the BBBC check weigh-in ahead of his first title fight at 135lbs.
Since then, the father of ‘Kid Austin,’ who controls his son’s social media pages, has posted an Instagram video of Schofield lying in a hospital bed.
Following that, Schofield Snr took to X to accuse Hearn of being a “liar,” while also insisting that further proof of his son’s situation will follow in due course.
“People are going to feel dumb when they see the proof,” he wrote on X. “People fear Floyd and this just made him more focused. Karma is very real… All things will be revealed in time.
“We look forward to going home to Texas and on to the next fight. The fight game is so dirty on this level.”
As of now, Stevenson is yet to secure a replacement opponent, though unbeaten lightweight contender Josh Padley has been mooted as a likely option.
The Brit comes off a sizable upset to outpoint Mark Chamberlain last September and, more importantly, is ranked 12th in the WBC lightweight rankings.
