FLOYD Schofield has earned himself an intriguing test against Tevin Farmer after withdrawing from his clash with Shakur Stevenson earlier this year.
The 22-year-old was supposed to face Stevenson in February, before a mysterious illness ultimately forced him to pull out of their contest during fight week.
In any case, Schofield was in no fit state to challenge for the WBC world lightweight title, sending his potentially life-changing opportunity down the drain.
At the same time, though, many felt that a showdown with Stevenson – arguably a top-ten pound-for-pound operator – had arrived too soon for the talented yet unproven prospect.
So now, the American is gearing up for a less formidable but nonetheless stern test against Farmer, a former world champion, on June 28.
Their matchup was announced yesterday via a social media post, confirming that the pair will square off on the undercard of Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Despite its somewhat farcical main event, the Golden Boy card – co-promoted by MVP Promotions – will also offer a selection of more appealing spectacles at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
One of which happens to be a dustup between unified world cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez and seasoned veteran Yuniel Dorticos, which should, if nothing else, add a degree of credibility to the event.
Regarding Schofield, meanwhile, a win over Farmer would no doubt catapult him closer towards world honours, with ‘Kid Austin’ hoping to prove his credentials at 135lbs.
But still, with Farmer coming off two razor-thin defeats against leading contender William Zepeda, it must be said that Schofield is likely to have his work cut out.
Along with that announcement, it was revealed that unbeaten South American welterweights Raul Curiel and Victor Rodriguez will collide on the same card, delivering another example of creative matchmaking.
