In this week’s Boxing News, Editor Matt Christie goes deep into the implications of a Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor boxing match and his opinion does not shine a positive light on the “circus”.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission should not sanction this fight. McGregor – who last boxed competitively at Novice level as a teenager – might well be fit and able to fight, but a journeyman would have more chance of winning, and can you imagine the uproar if William Warburton was matched with Mayweather? Perhaps it’s a ludicrous comparison, but just because McGregor is more famous doesn’t make it a fairer fight, and just because someone can box at a certain level does not mean they should be unleashed at the absolute highest.

But welterweight contender and member of ‘The Money Team’, Ashley Theophane has a different view…

Floyd is again showing the next generation of boxers and athletes how to take control of your earnings. Progress has never been about tinkering with what exists today, but being bold enough to try and create something different which may well be the platform for the next generation of fans and fighters. And that is what Floyd, if the fight is made, will be doing here. Love him or hate him, he is a pioneer of the modern age.
