AS Matt Christie previews Adrien Broner vs Ashley Theophane, he looks at a fight almost three years in the making and the involvement of one Floyd Mayweather, in this week’s issue of Boxing News magazine. “It was August 1, 2013,” Ashley Theophane tells Boxing News about the day Adrien Broner was first mentioned to him. “Me and Floyd Mayweather went out for a run and I thanked him for signing me. He told me then that he believed I could beat him [Broner]. That’s over two-and-a-half years ago. Floyd’s got the fight for me he wanted when he signed me. There will be no split loyalties, he wants me to win.” Their fight takes place this Friday (April 1) at the DC Armory in Washington.
